How does the self-distributed version work then? Well, first of all, there’s custom installer that downloads the software binaries. Installer and the actual binaries have been signed with recently acquired trusted certificate, however the windows Smart Screen does not yet trust it 🙂 Self-distributed has the benefit of getting faster and more frequent updates. Also, well, it’s not in Microsoft store and Steam, so that’s a plus? 🙂 Also, it is not restricted by external store policies, so that might in the future mean more deeply integrated services could be provided
